These apps are specially created to meet prison regulations and allow family members and friends to send and receive messages and photos, eCards, video calls, and even money into their prison trust account. There are also federal inmate apps that provide additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
JPay lets, text inmate for instance, friends and family members to transfer money directly into an inmate's trust account, as well as videos, photos, emails, and electronic cards. It also lets them design personalized postcards with personal photos. It's a safer and more secure alternative to postal mail.
Another popular inmate text app is GettingOut It provides "simple and reliable communication" between inmates and their loved ones. The app is available at select correctional facilities that allow inmates to upload pictures and message family and friends via their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 per message and loved ones pay for the data that they use to view their messages (but not for explicit photos). You can also make use of the GettingOut app to post pictures on Facebook or Foursquare and check in on Foursquare and add a video to a YouTube upload.
